Mk1 Escort (Cosworth Yb) MaxxECU

This really clean Ford Escort Mk1 came into the shop with a non-running issue, along with a few other problems. The ECU had also been locked, which didn’t help.

We started by checking the basics and found the cam timing was out, so that was corrected first. From there, we generated a fresh base map to get the car running again properly.
Once it was up and running, we confirmed oil pressure, tracked down a non-charging issue, and worked through a number of wiring faults to get everything behaving as it should.
While going through the setup, we found the injectors were undersized and holding things back, so they were replaced with something more suitable.

With everything checked over and safe, we took the car onto the dyno.
It made a healthy 344bhp. The turbo is on the smaller side, so torque drops off a bit at higher RPM, but it makes for a really responsive setup with plenty of low-down grunt.
In something as light as an Escort, that’s more than enough to keep things interesting.
